Gallery: Northern Portugal and Galicia, Spain, September 2025

Incredible paella in the mountains of Ribera Sacra, Spain.

In September of 2025 we led a small group of twelve wine and food lovers on a journey they will never forget, into the mountains of northern Portugal and northwestern Spain.

This is the “Green Region” of the Iberian Peninsula, where rainfall and humidity are ever-present, and in sharp contrast to the arid and dry regions of southern Portugal and central Spain. The lushness is evident this time of year, with grapevines growing deep into the trees, grasses high and verdant, and little streams and creeks running everywhere.

We explored “true” Vinho Verde and especially the forgotten reds of the region (up until the 1980s and 90s, over 95% of the production in Vinho Verde was red), best enjoyed with the local foods. Then into Rias Baixas for a visit to Granbazan, before continuing east into Ribera Sacra and Ribero.

Returning to Porto, we enjoyed a final two nights of food and tour immersion in the wonderful city.
